James Whiting

James Whiting


James is an AHPRA registered psychologist and member of the Australian Psychological Society. He believes strongly in providing the most evidence-based approach to treatment whilst taking a client-centred approach that places a high level of importance on the integral role of the therapeutic alliance between client and therapist.  

He has worked in both public and private sectors and has experience in working with a broad range of psychological presentations across the lifespan, with particular interests in the treatment of depression, addiction, trauma, and personality disorders.  James also has significant experience in working with adults with a range of psychological issues related to the management and particular challenges of living with a chronic illness, as well as emotional adjustment to post-acute health conditions.

 James’s treatment approach is guided by aspects of cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy and motivational interviewing, whilst also drawing on attachment and psychodynamic theoretical perspectives.

  • Can I claim Medicare rebates for counselling?

    We can help to determine your eligibility for government programs such as the Better Access initiative, or Psychological Services Program (formerly known as ATAPs), which enables people to receive medicare rebates for a certain number of sessions with a mental health professional.   • Do I need a referral?

    You do not need a referral to make an appointment at our health centre - we welcome new patients. Rebates maybe be available, click below to find out more.

  • Do you offer bulk-billing?

    Some of our practitioners offer bulk-billing for concession card holders only. 

    If you require bulk-billing:

    • Ask for a practitioner that offers bulk-billing when you make an appointment
    • Remember to bring your concession card with you to your appointment.
